Tom's New Flick Secretly Cruising Into Theaters

More from Marc Malkin

Tom Cruise may be coming to a theater near you sooner than you think.

Valkyrie, Cruise's upcoming flick about the real-life failed attempt by high-ranking German officers to assassinate Adolf Hitler, has been screen-tested for regular ol' moviegoers in Nevada, I'm hearing.

The audiences weren't aware of what they would be seeing because they had been blindly solicited to attend a free movie at their local multiplex.

In other words, a test screening could be happening in your neighborhood sometime soon (except, of course, if you live in major cities like Los Angeles or New York, where studios rarely test because audiences in those areas tend to be much more critical and not exactly in tune with the all-important Middle America moviegoers).

Suri Cruise: Most Likely to Be...

Suri Cruise Hector Vallenilla, PacificCoastNews.com

Yesterday we voted Kingston Rossdale as most likely to wind up as a superhip, superawesome DJ. We didn’t see many objections from you, so let’s continue our celebrity baby fan fiction with one of our favorite obsessions here—Suri Cruise.

Already sporting Burberry and Armani dresses with killer Mary Janes, Suri’s definitely going to know fashion. This paired with an interesting Tom Cruise upbringing will most likely cause Miss Cruise to develop a fashion sense light-years ahead of the average human being—thus sending her into bizarro Olsen twin territory. Not a bad place to be, albeit lonely.

And that’s why Suri gets our vote for Most Likely to Become a Highly Criticized but Still Respected Fashion Icon. Never fear, S.Cru (we’re still working the nickname, btw), we’ll always have your back—no matter what crazy rags you wear on your Starbucks runs.

German Studio Offers to Ease Valkyrie Extras' Pain

Valkyrie Frank Connor/United Artists, Inc

The German studio that has helped Tom Cruise jump over the various hurdles involved in filming in Deutschland wants to help the actor avoid yet another big headache.

The head of Studio Babelsberg AG, which is coproducing Valkyrie with Cruise's United Artists, said Thursday that it has proposed a settlement to 12 extras who want $11 million to cover injuries they say they suffered when a side panel of an old military truck they were riding in fell off.

The 12 angry men, who reportedly were left with injuries ranging from cuts and bruises to pulled ligaments and broken bones, have sent a letter to United Artists demanding compensation and threatening legal action.

Meanwhile, it was sister company Achte Babelsberg Film GmbH, that hired the extras, according to Studio Babelsberg president and CEO Charles Woebcken.

Valkyrie Extras Cruise Into Legal Action?

Tom Cruise, Valkyrie Phil Bray/MGM

Another day, another bout of negative publicity for Tom Cruise's beseiged Valkyrie.

A dozen extras who worked on the WWII-era film last summer are seeking $11 million from Cruise and his production company, United Artists, over injuries allegedly sustained while filming what should have been a less-than-action-packed sequence in Berlin.

The 12 actors reportedly suffered several broken bones, cuts and bruises during the Aug. 19, 2007, incident, when the side panel of their German Army truck burst open as the vehicle turned a corner.

Cruise was not on set at the time.

Casting Couch: Cruise Wants Sleeper Hit

Tom Cruise Jerome Ware/ZUMA Press

Tom Cruise is striking while the Iron Man—and Batman—is hot, and eyeing a comic book adaptation to call his own.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the box-office superstar has teamed up with Spider-Man director extraordinaire Sam Raimi to develop DC Comics' Sleeper at Warner Bros., with Cruise attached to star in the would-be flick.

The comic book—a spinoff of a spinoff—is not nearly as steeped in tradition and lore as its box-office predecessors, having run from 2003-05.

It would, however, see Cruise take on a role that's not so far from his usual onscreen persona (balding, nearly unidentifiable film moguls notwithstanding).

"Wow, You're Taller Than My Dad and More Lifelike Than My Mom!"

Suri Cruise James Devaney/Getty Images

That's the caption that user killedbyllamas came up with to describe über-cute Suri Cruise as she appeared to carry on a conversation with a doll at the Bonpoint children's boutique in New York City.

But there were so many worthy snarks and cute riffs that we wanted to share a few more:

Liz: "You had me at hello!"

Collslee: "Between you, and mom and dad, you seem very real and down-to-earth."

Julie: "Hey! I'm the doll here, see."

Chris: "Listen, here's the deal, I will stay here and you go with the nice robot lady pinching your butt. OK?"

tina_dap: "Stick with me kid and you'll go places!"

Buck McGuck: "You can't handle the twoof!"

culbert123: "I'm serious! Tom Cruise is my dad."

Valkyrie Cruises Into Christmas Release

Tom Cruise, Valkyrie Phil Bray/MGM

Tom Cruise's mission to get Valkyrie on the big screen was beginning to seem impossible. Here's hoping the third time's the charm.

For the third time in less than a year, MGM has changed the release date of Cruise's beleaguered WWII-era flick, though this time making the would-be release earlier than expected, finally allowing for some much-needed positive buzz for the film.

Previously scheduled for release on Feb. 13, 2009—its most recent premiere date after getting bumped from both June 27 and Oct. 3 openings—the Nazi-themed thriller will now bow on the historically hefty Christmas weekend, hitting theaters on Dec. 26 of this year.

"We saw and tested the movie," MGM's president of distribution, Clark Woods, said. "And we believe a strong movie deserves a strong playdate."

Tom Cruise's Production Partner Bows Out

Tom Cruise, Paula Wagner Paramount Pictures

Tom Cruise's front is no longer united.

After perhaps one anthrax scare too many, the actor's longtime production partner, Paula Wagner, has announced that she is leaving her chief executive post at the new United Artists to pursue projects independently.

She will retain her coownership in UA, the nearly century-old studio that she and Cruise revived after losing their spot on the Paramount lot in 2006, and she'll continue to work on her films that are already in the pipeline.

"I love Paula—we have worked together and been friends for over 25 years," Cruise said in a statement Thursday. "I support her in anything she does. Paula is an incredibly smart and talented producer, and I look forward to working together producing films in the future."

How Dudes Do the Tropic Thunder Red Carpet

Last night’s Tropic Thunder premiere brought out so many big names, the red carpet was awards-season worthy. But being a funny (some may even say offensive) movie, the guys decided to keep it cazh with sneakers.

Of course, we believe one of these men outshone the others. Some thoughts, after the jump...

Angelina Steps Into Tom Cruise's Butt-Kicking Shoes

Make that Edwina A. Salt.

The espionage thriller Edwin A. Salt, originally intended as a vehicle for Mission: Impossible hero Tom Cruise, is being rewritten for Angelina Jolie now that Cruise is no longer attached, Variety reports.

Jolie has not yet signed on to the pic, but she is reportedly close to a deal and changes are already under way in hopes that all will go according to plan. The Bone Collector helmer Philip Noyce will still direct, but the film, about a CIA agent who's accused of spying for the Russians, will get a new title.

Obviously.

Cruise, Hayek Offices Threatened With Anthrax

What has more potential explosions than a Tom Cruise movie? A Tom Cruise office building, it turns out.

For the second time this week, Los Angeles' MGM Tower, a professional complex housing the production companies of both Cruise and Salma Hayek, has been hit with a security threat, this time over an anthrax scare.

Sources confirmed exclusively to E! News that a building-wide memo has gone out informing all tenants of an anonymous threat phoned in to the building's main switchboard stating the deadly virus would be placed into the building's ventilation system, starting on the 20th floor.

The Cruise-run studio United Artists is housed on the tower's 11th floor; Hayek's Ventanarosa production company is located on the second.

It was not immediately clear whether either star was at the office building today.

Cruise, Hayek Offices Evacuated in Bomb Scare

Even worse than a bomb at the box office? A bomb at the office, period.

E! News has confirmed that the headquarters of United Artists, the production company Tom Cruise resuscitated with longtime business partner Paula Wagner, was evacuated earlier this morning when another tenant in the building received an anonymous bomb threat.

In addition to Cruise's United Artists, the MGM Tower complex, which received the anonymous phone call, is also home to Salma Hayek's production company, Ventanarosa, and the talent agency ICM. All were among the offices evacuated at about 11 a.m.

Turned out to be a false alarm.
